Classroom and Lecture Hall AV: Wall-Plate Extender to Projector

A classroom setup that keeps working: a USB-C and HDMI wall plate, 4K to the projector over one Cat6 cable, laptop charging, projector control and room audio, plus hybrid lectures.

Updated on

A classroom or lecture hall needs a dependable way for any teacher's laptop to reach the projector or display, usually across the room and up to the ceiling. Long HDMI cables, adapters that go missing and connectors loosened by daily plugging are the usual failure points. This guide shows a simple setup that keeps working: a wall-plate extender at the teaching position and a receiver at the projector.

The core setup: wall plate to projector

4KEX70W-H2 is a wall-plate transmitter with USB-C and HDMI inputs, so both newer and older laptops plug straight in. It sends 4K60 up to 70m over one Cat6 cable to a receiver at the projector or display. It also:

  • charges the teacher's USB-C laptop with up to 100W while presenting;
  • passes IR and RS-232, so the projector can be switched on and controlled from the lectern;
  • de-embeds audio (up to PCM 7.1) from the receiver to an amplifier and room speakers.

The wall plate mounts in a wall box beside the teacher's desk, so there are no loose cables on the floor.

Typical classroom layout

  1. Teaching wall: the 4KEX70W-H2 transmitter in a wall box at desk height.
  2. Cable: one solid-copper Cat6 run through conduit to the ceiling. Keep it apart from lighting circuits.
  3. Ceiling: the receiver next to the projector, with HDMI to the projector and an audio cable to the amplifier.
  4. Control: the projector's remote works from the lectern through IR pass-through, or a control panel uses RS-232.

Larger lecture halls

  • Longer runs: where the projector is more than 70m away, use 4KEX100-H2 (4K up to 70m, 1080p up to 100m) or 4KEX100-L (4K up to 100m on Cat6a or Cat7).
  • Two projectors or a projector plus a confidence monitor: add an HDMI splitter such as 4KSP12-S (1 in, 2 out) or 4KSP14-S (1 in, 4 out, with auto downscaling).
  • Several inputs at the lectern (laptop, document camera, PC): an HDMI switch such as 4KSW41-H2 selects the source before the extender.

Wireless sharing for students and guests

For group work and guest lecturers, a wireless presentation system removes the need for cables. eShare W50 lets presenters share in 4K without installing software, and eShare W80 adds dual output and multiview, so two students can share side by side.

Hybrid and recorded lectures

To stream or record a class, add a conference camera such as BizEye P30 (PTZ, auto tracking, 3× optical zoom) to follow the teacher, and a speakerphone such as AnyCo A6, which can be cascaded to pick up questions from the room. Both connect to the lecture PC over USB.

Checklist before handover

  • Test a USB-C laptop and an HDMI laptop at the wall plate.
  • Confirm the laptop charges while presenting.
  • Check that audio reaches the room speakers, not the laptop speakers.
  • Label the wall plate with simple instructions ("Plug in USB-C or HDMI, then press Input on the remote").
  • Keep a spare USB-C to USB-C cable rated for video and 100W at each room.
